What Is SEW MaNIA?
At SEW MaNIA, we aim to make the world a better place through resourcefulness, creativity, kindness, connection, and sewing classes! In a world of fast fashion and faster trend cycles, we want Sew Mania to be a warm and welcoming space, helping beginner sewists take their first steps and grow at their own pace.
With an in person sewing instructor, you can receive feedback in real time, you can ask questions, and receive helpful tips along the way. We have a selection of beginner friendly projects pre-cut and ready to sew. You could have a new handmade makeup bag or pencil case in just 40 minutes, in addition to an understanding basic machine operation.
We also have longer projects for those who are confident and want to jump straight in.

My creative journey of sewing and designing was set for me when my mother taught me how to use a sewing machine at six years old. Under her guidance, I progressed quickly from making doll clothes to designing a wardrobe for myself in grade school. Next stop, the design capital of the world was calling me. I was NYC bound.
While in NYC, maintaining full-time sales positions with luxury brands, Bergdorf Goodman, Manolo Blahnik, and Valentino, I pursued my creative instinct.
Throughout my career, I have sold my limited edition apparel at boutiques in Miami, NYC, Honolulu, and Wailea Hawaii.
More recently, teaching and spreading the joys of sewing and the sense of accomplishment it brings is a natural progression.
Wherever you imagine your creative path, whether opening the sewing machine box purchased months ago or enhancing garment construction skills and techniques, we are your source of support and thoughtful instruction.
So join in on the fun for young and old alike with students, families, parents, and teachers. Building a community around creative endeavors is truly a worthwhile and rewarding experience.
All are welcome!

When I was 6 years old, my grandparents' sewing store also served as my daycare. To distract me from running around, climbing the fabric walls, and switching price tags I was given a needle and thread and tasked to make pillows for my soon to be born baby brother. At the same time, my love for sewing and making was born as well. I'd then attend kids’ sewing camps put on by my grandmother until I was old enough to start teaching them myself.
I have gone on to instruct sewing classes in many different environments and to a wide range of ages and demographics. Currently, I am a recent graduate of Parsons School of Design. What I learned in my 4 years of fashion design school is that I have a love for sewing in particular, and being able to teach and help my peers with their projects has proved to be incredibly fulfilling.
Creatively, my interests are in patternmaking, costume design, and unique textile creation.
The ability to sew has proven time and time again to be therapeutic, creatively stimulating, and cost effective, since I am able to repair and improve upon my clothing, increasing their longevity and improving my eye for quality. I am excited to share my knowledge and expertise with you all.
Thank you,
Violet Nichols, Assistant Manager
